Bio

Dr. Horowitz was born, raised, and educated in New York City.  He graduated from Queens College of the City University of New York with a B.A. in English Literature in 1970. A graduate course he attended at Columbia University, taught by Richard Cloward, co-author of Regulating the Poor, was the final motivation for him to pursue a career in Social Work.  Dr. Horowitz went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Social Work (M.S.W.) from New York University in Greenwich Village, N.Y. in 1977 and a Doctorate (D.S.W.) from Adelphi University in Garden City, N. Y. in 1987.  Dr. Horowitz also pursued extensive education and training in modern psychoanalysis, Eriksonian psychotherapy and hypnosis, biofeedback, mind-body behavioral medicine, and family mediation & arbitration.

Dr. Horowitz’s career has encompassed clinical private practice, administrative work within organizations, consultation to organizations, academic university teaching, workshops and lectures for the public.  In 1999 Dr. Horowitz attended an early meeting of the High Conflict Forum in Toronto and met Linda Chodos, M.S.W., R.S.W., Barbara Fidler, Ph. D., C. Psych., Helen Radovanovic, Ph. D., C. Psych, and the late Susan Schaefer, M.S.W., R.S.W.. In affiliation with each other these five clinicians founded Family Solutions to meet the needs of those embroiled in high conflict separation and/or divorce under the principle of best interest of the child. Dr. Horowitz, in an expression of his belief in the importance of this new venture, left his New York practice and relocated to Toronto where he specializes in the issues of high conflict divorce as well as the individual issues of family life for children and adults. He consults to families and organizations in New York on a limited basis.
